Marist Brothers look to start 2023 with a bang

Marist Brothers will be looking for the perfect start to the new year in Round 6 of the LJ Hooker League on Saturday.

Brothers will travel to Fripp Oval to take on the Ballina Bears in the resumption of the competition after the mid-season Christmas break.

The Lismore side will again make several changes due to player availability with several strong additions to the side.

Opener Ashley Simes has been named in the side and will add strikepower at the top of the order. His combinations with Kevin Warid and Pat Martin could be key to the outcome.

Brothers Brad and Matt Cleaver and Joe Allan will add a solid backbone to the top order.

Bowlers Owen Bensley and youngster Hamish Weekes will again join captain Brendan Mitchell in attack attempt to get the most out of the pitch.

Weather and pitch conditions could play a factor with storms dumping large amounts of rain across the region earlier in the week.

A win for Brothers will push them further up the ladder at a crucial time in the competition and a win for the Bears would be their first for the season.

The match commences at 1:00pm.

Goonellabah Workers Sports have a bye in Round 6 of the LJ Hooker League and Lismore District Cricket returns on Saturday 14 January.
