Marist Brothers Junior Rugby League urges you attend the AGMCooper Love (left) and Lennox Rowe in action for Marist Brothers Juniors in 2019. Both players represent Marist Brothers U18s in the NRRRL this season.

After pulling out of the 2020 Group 1 Junior Rugby League season, Marist Brothers are taking the first steps towards getting back on the field for 2021.

Whilst restrictive COVID-safe plans, lack of pre-season training and a shortened, modified season were all reasons for the club not taking the field, the lack of volunteers required to run the club was sighted as the major factor in the club making the difficult decision not to play.

“Year after year we get the same small handful of people turning up to volunteer their time and support the club so our kids can enjoy the greatest game of all - rugby league. Next season, Marist Brothers Junior Rugby League will require new volunteers/parents/carers to get involved and become part of our club - we will require a number of volunteers to help out in all areas of the club,” said Marist Brothers Junior Rugby League Club President Craig Rowe.

“There are requirements that a certain number of league safe & sports trainers, as well as ground managers, need to be present at every home and away game. Players cannot take the field until the requirements are fulfilled. Also at home games we will require helpers in the canteen, people to help set up and pack up fields.”

Marist Brothers Juniors have proven they are a vital pathway for rugby league in Lismore. This year’s NRRRL Gold Competition Grand Finalist Marist Brothers' Under 18’s side were made up primarily of players (and coaching staff) from the 2019 Under 16 Group 1 Minor Premiership winning Marist Brothers Junior team.

Rams Under-18s achieve something extra special

This year's NRRRL Gold Competition Grand Finalist A Grade side also played at least one game this season where all 13 players of the run-on side were Marist Brothers Juniors.

The Junior Rams first steps to returning in 2021 will be put in to place at the club’s AGM, to be held at the Heights Sports Club at 6pm on Monday, November 2.

“We encourage all parents/carers to please get on board and attend the AGM, the future of the club depends on your involvement, input and ideas,” said Rowe.
