Marist Brothers: 'Every game is a Grand Final'The Marist Rams being put through their paces at training last night.

Marist Brothers new coach Mark Sivewright says his side will treat every match in the shortened 10-week NRRRL season as a "Grand Final".

The Rams travel tomorrow for the First Round match against the Casino RSM Cougars at 3pm.

"We have worked hard, we have prepared well and we are ready. There are no excuses," Sivewright said at the final training session at Crozier Field last night.

"We have not set a long-term goal but it's a 10-week competition and every week is a Grand Final and we are preparing for that. There is an expectation. I will be disappointed, very disappointed, if we don't make the semis. The players know that and they know they have the cattle and are expected to perform. The players are aware there are expectations."

Sivewright has recruited extensively with the emphasis on bringing back the Marist Brothers Juniors into the fold. The latest two to return are Northern United full-back Hezekiah McKenzie and Northern United hooker Jamahl Roberts.

"I saw signs of Hez last season and I thought I would love to work with him. He can play full-back and he can play on the wing - he has speed to burn," said Sivewright.

"He is so strong and so good on his feet. He has a good swerve, step and look at his hands - he has played a lot of half-back. An absolute gem.

"He has a good attitude and is first to training and last to leave.

"Jamahl is a competitor and he can play anywhere in the team except in the front row."

Sivewright said McKenzie and Roberts add the touches to a "well balanced side".

"We have youth and experience, fast players, smart players, tough players - we have a bit of everything," he said.
