A man has died following an alleged assault in the state’s north this morning.

About 3:15am today (Sunday, 24 November 2024), emergency services were called to William Street, Tweed Heads South, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District attended and found an unconscious man, believed to be aged in his 30s, laying on the ground outside a home.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man; however, he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
