A man has been charged following the death of a youth and the wounding of another in Casino last month.
Emergency services were called to a fast-food restaurant on Centre Street, Casino, about 5.10pm on Sunday 29 May 2022, responding to reports of a brawl.
Officers from Richmond Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics and found two men with stab wounds.
A 17-year-old boy died at the scene; an 18-year-old man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment.
A crime scene was established and forensically examined by specialist police.
Detectives from Richmond Police District formed Strike Force Meryta and commenced an investigation into the incident, assisted by detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Following inquiries, a man, aged 18, was arrested at Casino Police Station about 9.50am yesterday (Wednesday 15 June 2022).
The man was a North Casino resident, and investigations are continuing as to whether there are any further suspects involved.
The man is due to appear in court on Thursday 23rd June, 2022.
NSW Police were unable to confirm whether the man was known to victims or their families.
The man was charged with affray and use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence.
He has been granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Casino Local Court on Wednesday 23 June 2022.
