Man charged after Friday's Cherry Street motel incident  The man will appear in Lismore court later today

Richmond police have charged a man following an alleged domestic violence-related incident in Ballina on Friday afternoon.


About 12.00pm last Friday (19 July 2024), officers from Richmond Police District were called to a motel on Cherry Street, Ballina, regarding a concern for welfare call.



Police arrived and were told a 38-year-old man was inside one of the units, allegedly holding a 29-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy against their will.


Officers located the unit and – with assistance from specialist police – arrested the 38-year-old at 5pm.


No injuries were reported.



The man was taken to Lismore Hospital under police guard for assessment.


Today (Sunday, 21 July 2024), the man was released from hospital and taken to Lismore Police Station.


He was charged with breach apprehended violence order, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intimidation.



He has been refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Monday, 22 July 2024).
