Lord and Auld place Brothers in commanding position

Marist Brothers bowlers Connor Lord and Kaleb Auld have put their side in a commanding position in the LJ Hooker League Grand Final.

Cudgen won the toss and sent Marist Brothers in to bat on Saturday, and it proved to be a good move, with Brothers losing early wickets.

Ashley Simes was the lone batsman at the top of the order to accumulate both time at the crease and runs, eventually falling for 38 off 89 balls.

The home side was in trouble at 7/85 when Simes fell, but some late order heroics gave the Brothers bowlers a target to defend.

Cooper Williams (29) and Jeremy Perkins (19) combined for a 48 run partnership to help take their side to a total of 141.

It was then the bowlers turn and they produced a special spell of bowling, as they have all year.

Lord took 3 quick wickets in the top order to have Cudgen 3/10 early. Lord eventually finished the day with 3/8 off 7 tight overs.

Kaleb Auld then came on at first change and was almost unplayable, continuing on from his semi final performance.

Auld finished with 4/13 off 10 overs, including 5 maidens.

At stumps on Day 1, Brothers had Cudgen 8/63, needing just 2 wickets to put them in the box seat for an historic victory, the clubs first LJ Hooker League premiership since 1996/97.

Play will start on Sunday at 11am.
