Local musician Laura Nobel has a goal for 2024, to provide a weekly experience for the Lismore community to meet up with friends and listen to some wonderful music while supporting a local venue.
Laura's fairly simple objective starts on Thursday, January 25 at the Lismore Bowling Club with the launch of the 'Supper Club'.
"The party on the 25th is a way to introduce the idea to the community," Laura told the Lismore App, "It's also to put on an evening where the Lismore crew can come together for a celebration of Lismore."
"The first Thursday will be myself, Greg Lyon, Geoff Wright and Pete Wilkinson with some special guests."
Entry is free and it is BYO supper with a 7pm start.
Laura's hope is to establish a regular Thursday evening Supper Club with a $15 door charge.
"A few years ago I used to play a regular Friday night at La Vida restaurant with a few musician friends. It became a really lovely local scene where people knew they could have a night out, see friends, have a drink, and hear some great music. People would often ask me if it could happen again. Let's find out"
The quality of music that will be on offer each week at the Lismore Bowling Club can be assured by the history of Laura and her co-host and friend Greg Lyon.
Laura Nobel is a singer, songwriter, musician and teacher. Laura is known for her soulful vocal style, and her ability to cross genres of Jazz, Blues, RnB and Funk.
Laura was the lead singer in one of Lismore’s most adored bands, The Funkwits, and more recently, the 10-piece Showband Soul’d. She has sung with the Northern Rivers Big Band, and has been a featured vocalist with the Lismore Symphony Orchestra.
Laura has played regular gigs over the years both in the local area, the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Laura recently recorded a beautiful Jazz-inspired album, A Time For Love which was produced by Greg, and features Brendan St. Ledger on piano and local drumming extraordinaire Scott Hills.
Greg Lyon is one of Australia’s most accomplished bass players, having played with many international and national acts such as Rodriguez, Georgie Fame, Richard Clapton, Renee Geyer and Crossfire, to name a few.
Locally he is well known for his bands Hip Pocket and Greg Lyon and the Hip Operation. Greg also plays in the popular Byron-based band The Feramones with Rick Fenn from 10CC. Greg helped to establish the Contemporary Music course at Southern Cross University and was a lecturer there for over 20 years.
The Supper Club's ultimate success depends on how many people go through the doors each Thursday night with the first on Thursday, January 25 at the Lismore City Bowling Club (171A Molesworth Street, behind the Historical Society) kicking off at 7pm. Free entry.
