Local mother Peach Darvall has launched a strike action for effective climate action at the Lismore Quad every Tuesday afternoon. She is inviting everyone to join the strike to help get the climate change message to Canberra.
“I am a disabled Mum who can’t stand the half measures, the denying, delaying, and divisive behaviours of our government in the midst of a Climate Emergency,” says Ms Darvall.
“Global warming is accelerating faster than was expected. We have a very small window to act. NOW. This decade is the make-or-break one, the 2020’s.
“Many countries and governments around the world are rising to the challenge of caring for their people, biodiversity, other species and recognising that life-sustaining interdependence. They are taking the urgent and transformative actions required now to cool our planet.”
“I have a child and I see the kids and young adults around me. I want a life for them in the future.”
“We are sitting, 'protecting', to influence our Australian Government to make urgent, far-reaching, systemic organisational change to decrease the effects of Climate Change on all of us.”
“So I am raising my voice and I urge everyone to raise theirs. Let’s light a fire under our government, let them know how unacceptable their insufficient and weak Climate Change policies are.”
All members of the community are invited to join in and demand the Federal government take effective action on climate change each Tuesday from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at the Lismore Quad.
