There will be a considerable amount of local interest in the inaugural "The Big Dance" which will be run at Randwick on Tuesday.

The Big Dance is a concept developed by Racing NSW to be run on the first Tuesday of November each year.

The race is a 1600m event for country cup grade horses that aims to give those in country and regional areas a local interest in a big race.

It was decided that the winners and second placegetters of 25 designated country cups races would qualify and the final field has been assembled.

The qualifying process started on October 31 last year and culminates at 2:20pm on Tuesday, 40 minutes prior to the Melbourne Cup.

The Lismore Cup was included in the qualification process, but was washed out, so was moved to Grafton a week later, with Spanish Point taking the honours.

Spanish Point, trained by Kris Lees, has made the final field and will jump from barrier 8 and is currently a 150/1 chance. Spanish Point will be ridden by Port Macquarie jockey Andrew Adkins.

The horse drops 6kg from its Lismore Cup win and will carry 52kg.

Other local cup winners in the field include the Murwillumbah Cup winner Impasse, trained by the popular Matt Dunn, Ballina Cup winner Kedah and South Grafton Cup winner Surf Dancer.

The favourite for the race is Coffs Harbour Cup winner Hosier, trained by Kris Lees and will be ridden by international superstar Frankie Dettori.
