Last week the State Government invited regional councils to apply for a share of $3 million in funding for projects that will support the delivery of more well-located and affordable homes.

Regional councils can now apply for between $20,000 and $250,000 for individual projects as part of the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund.

As regional NSW plans for and delivers more homes to its growing communities, the government is supporting that growth by funding strategic planning projects.

Councils can use the funds to speed up new housing strategies, prepare infrastructure and servicing plans and make local planning amendments for the delivery of more diverse and affordable housing supply. 

Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin said, “It’s good to see the NSW Government and local councils working together to create a pipeline for new homes.

“These projects will support regional NSW towards its housing target of 55,000 homes during the National Housing Accord.

“The Minns Labor Government is committed to solving the housing crisis so that regional communities can grow.”

A Lismore City Council Spokesperson said, "Lismore City Council was successful in Round 1 of the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund.

"The grant money ($74,810) has allowed us to progress an Affordable Housing Contributions Scheme that should come back to Council for a determination in November.

"Staff are currently looking at the criteria for Round 3 to determine if there is a suitable project that could be applied for prior to the November 22 deadline."

Round three is now open and closes at 12pm on Friday 22 November 2024.
