The Lismore Workers Swim Team are still homeless ten months on from the devastating February 28 megaflood that wiped out the Lismore Memorial Baths in Molesworth Street.
The Baths have had no sign of repair work to make it operational to this point.
The Lismore App asked Lismore City Council for an update and received this reply.
"Lismore Memorial Baths suffered extensive damage in the February natural disaster, as did many Council-owned buildings. Council is about to go to tender to appoint a contractor to scope the work and repair all of Council’s buildings. At this stage, it is expected that repair work at the Memorial Baths will begin in April, with the baths ready to open to the public in time for summer 2023."
Until then, the Lismore Workers Swim Team's temporary home is at Southern Cross University which allows the club to continue but under difficult circumstances.

Club Treasurer and former swimmer on the team, Lucie White said they lost their head coach, Peter Harvey because he lost his job post-flood working as a graphic designer in a printing company. Peter has since opened his own printing business in Brunswick Heads so the distance to and from work isn't conducive to coaching Lismore's more advanced swimmers on a regular basis plus travel to carnivals on a Saturday or Sunday.
That is problem number one for the Lismore Workers Swim Team, attracting a new Head Coach. Ads have gone out through Seek with no success.
Problem number two is a result of not having a Heach Coach. The more advanced swimmers have had to move to other nearby clubs such as Alstonville. That impact means less trade for Lismore's local CBD businesses as parents now travel and spend in Alstonville. Plus more travel for parents if they live in South Lismore or Dunoon or other areas in the west or northwest.
The Lismore Workers Swim Team (LWST) still has younger coaches that can competently teach learn-to-swim and stroke development and are looking for new members to join their team.
For parents looking to get their kids into fitness or learn-to-swim, the cost is only $10 per session or $110 for unlimited sessions per month.
The Lismore Workers Swim Team has been operating since 1927, so 96 years, and with the closure of the Trinity Swimming Club as their Head Coach also left the area, Lismore does not have a lot of options.
There are some famous names on the Lismore perpetual trophies in that 96 years, such as Olympian Adam Pine. Lucie White is determined to once again make the Lismore Workers Swim Team one of the strongest in the region. There are currently 30 members approximately when pre-flood there were 120 members.
If you know of a Head Coach that would like to join LWST and take our local swimmers to the state and national titles, contact Lucie on 0412 106 635 or via a message through their Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/lwstswimming/ .
