For more than 12 months, Lismore Workers Golf Club has been trying to get its women golfers to play alongside the men in the competitions on Saturdays.

A Two Person Ambrose, sponsored by Chris Slade Painting from Goonellabah, attracted about 12 women golfers last Saturday, said Lismore Workers Golf Club's professional Peter Jaeger.

"It is a breakthrough and we would like to see women play every Saturday. Lyn Chant, with Jim Stewart, came third and Jo and Kev Ezzy scored a 63 in the Two Person Ambrose."

Jaeger said the scores of the winners Steve Button and Max Leeson (58.75), runners-up father and son team Peter and Alex Fiore (59.5) and Chant and Stewart (60) were "amazing". Even fourth placed Chris Macris and Michael Nind scored 60.25.

"There were 173 competitors and we welcomed players from Ballina, Moranbah and Moonah golf clubs. It was an excellent field for the event," said Jaeger.
