Chief Inspector Nicole Bruce from the Richmond Police District has congratulated local residents and visitors on their behaviour during New Years Eve celebrations.

"There were only 2 or three arrests for alcohol related offences" she said, "given the number of people celebrating this is a very good result". Chief Inspector Bruce went on to explain that the majority of people were well behaved.

The disappointing area for Christmas and New Year celebrations was felt on the road with a number of daily detections for drink driving with drugs in their system. "This is one area that is still disappointing" Chief Inspector Bruce said.

Operation Safe Arrival finished at midnight last night.
