The Lismore Thistles u13 Girls are Premiers for 2024 after a 4-0 win over Bangalow.

The Lismore Thistles u13 Girls team have come back stronger in the 2024 season.

Lismore App sports readers, may remember a feel-good story in August last year, when Lismore's only girls football team was motivated by the Matilda's achievements at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia.

After making the Grand Final, they missed out on the title in a close game, losing 1:0 against Byron (Matildas inspire Lismore Thistles Grade 12 Girls to reach Grand Final (lismoreapp.com.au)).

Last year the Lismore Thistles u12's was the only competitive girls' soccer team in Lismore. This year, they are just 1 of 2 competitive girls soccer teams in Lismore.

The Lismore Thistles Girls came back for the 2024 season determined to go one better, and have not lost a game, with 11 wins and 3 draws.

Throughout the regular season, they scored 62 goals and have only had 3 goals scored against them.

On Sunday, in unseasonably warm weather, the girls played Byron in the semi-final and had something to prove after last year's grand final loss.

To get through to the grand final, the girls needed a draw or win.

Byron took an early opportunity and scored in the first half. The girls played hard, fought back, and equalised before full-time.

Needing a result and with a 1 all-draw score, the game went to extra time, 2 x 10-minute halves.

In extra time, Lismore Thistles u13s scored 2 more goals! The final score was 3:1, a convincing win.

The Thistles Girls u13s will play Bangalow in the 2024 Grand Final tonight (Friday, 6th Sept) at 6:30pm at Thistles home ground at 191 Military Road, East Lismore.
