Lismore Theatre Company has double feature in March

The next production by the Lismore Theatre Company is less than two weeks away, beginning on Friday, March 1.

The good news for theatre lovers, it is a double feature celebrating the stories of men with 'Hairy Arms' and 'Broadway Beckons'.

Hairy Arms features the story of Alan whose police dad took his young family to live on the edge of the Simpson desert where life wasn’t all hairy-chested male bravado. Sometimes there was dancing and magic.

Directed by Bette Guy, Hairy Arms is a play about Alan’s personal stories of physical isolation, loneliness and ultimate triumph.

'Broadway Beckons' is a play about young Roger who doesn’t know what to do with his life.

Becoming an actor on Broadway sounds pretty cool. Say 'Hello' to the cornucopia of weird, colourful and eccentric misfits he encounters along the way.

Director of Broadway Beckons, Alan Raabe said, "I am thrilled to bring a piece of male-centric theatre to the Lismore stage. With so many worthy causes in the fight for equality, the ‘mere-male’ is sometimes overlooked."

"All of the characters in these two works explore various aspects of the male experience. Whether it be simply being adrift in an inner world of uncertainty where external clarity is so highly prized, or the equally complex issues of mental health, substance abuse, or other ‘unmentionable’ male physical illnesses. Testicular or prostate cancer spring instantly to mind."

"Whilst all of these topics are universal and very human, there are subtle nuances which apply exclusively to the males of our species. Male domestic violence is real. Divorced or separated father’s isolation from their children is real. That is why it is such a pleasure to support the Lismore Men & Community Shed with our fundraiser night on the 2nd of March."

Hairy Arms and Broadway Beckons runs over six nights, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 1, 2 and 3 then March 8, 9 and 10 at the Rochdale Theatre, 603 Ballina Road, Goonellabah.
