The NSW SES Lismore Unit is asking for all East Lismore and Girards Hill residents who lived through and experienced the February 28 2022 flood to attend a meeting at the East Lismore Bowling Club on Monday between 6pm and 7:30pm.
NSW SES North Eastern Zone Community Capability Officer Janet Pettit told the Lismore App, the SES is trying to gather as much information as possible.
"We have our own maps as to which areas flooded for the first time in East Lismore and Girards Hill but we want to build our database from the consequences of the flood."
"I hate using the word but the 2022 flood was unprecedented and we want to talk to people on the ground. We want to get an idea of how high the water came in the two suburbs, where it came from so blocked drains or runoff from the hills and where it went."
"The information will benefit our planning, our warning systems and flood intelligence for the future."
If you can attend on Monday, RSVP to Janet on 0407 261 359. Don't forget to bring your photos.
Janet hopes to run more community sessions across different parts of the NRs.
For those that cannot attend Monday's session, there will be some casual 'sit and sip' sessions between 10am and 12noon at Muddle Puddle in the future. Keep an eye on the NSW SES Lismore Unit's Facebook page for more details.
Meanwhile, last weekend, the Lismore City SES joined the NSW SES led multi-agency flood boat exercise- 'Who Let The Boats Out' on the Wilsons River.
In its 4th year, the exercise is designed to enhance flood rescue operations with more than 200 boats and 750 personnel taking to waterways across the state.
Lismore members practised manoeuvring, launching and docking vessels, search and rescue tasks, recovering persons overboard, radio communications, fire drills and navigation on the Wilsons River.
The Facebook page said, "A great opportunity for all agencies to practise working together and exchange on-water expertise, so when there is an emergency, we can respond side by side with knowledge of each other's capabilities,"
