Dylan Tulk, a Year 12 student at St John's College Woodlawn, is leaving on Saturday as part of a NSW Country Juniors Rugby development tour to Canada and North America.
"I am very excited but I’m sure the nerves will start kicking in soon as I’ve never been to Canada or the US before," Dylan, who has been performing strongly in the second row for Lismore Rugby First Grade side this season, told the Lismore App.
Tulk joins six others boys from Far North Coast Rugby Union - Tim Chapman, Jai Harris, Benson Lockyer, Quinn Reilly, Quinn Thomas and Cory Townsend - who are in the NSW Country Juniors squad that will play on Vancouver Island, Los Angeles and Sacramento.
"Obviously dad (Gavin) is very proud and almost as excited as I am," said Dylan.
"I hope that the boys playing rugby in this area can see that there’s still opportunities."
Dylan Tulk, who is in Year 12 at St John's College Woodlawn, is on his first visit to Canada and the US as part of a NSW Country Junior rugby development tour.
Jeff Watt, one of the coaches, said the development tour party was made up of Under 17 and Under 18 players.
"It will be a really good test for our boys. We hit the ground running. I think it's seven matches during what is the school holidays," he said.
"We start in Canada before finishing the tour in the US. We are up against one very good school, one average school with the rest more than handy."
The local rugby players will take on the Ravens & James Bay Athletic Association on Vancouver Island, Mira Costa High School Rugby in Los Angeles and Jesuit High School Sacramento. The will also have time to see Six Flags, a MLB match and a tour of Alcatraz.
