“What do you call a cheetah that you’re going to eat for lunch? Fast food!”

Lismore Public School student Sienna Gadsby recently enthralled listeners at a school public speaking competition about what it would be like if she were an animal.

Sienna’s speech earned her first place in the stage 2 semi-final of the public speaking competition at Lismore Public School.

Lismore Public School instructional leader Michelle Stroud-Watts said next term, Sienna will be joined by the winner of the stage 3 section, Lara Magner, who spoke on how the world is a small place these days.

“The two students will compete in The Rivers Public Speaking competition held at the City Hall on November 8, where schools from across the Lismore region will compete for the prestigious title of Public Speaking Champion,” Mrs Stroud-Watts said.

“Adjudicators of the competition were Mrs Jenny Dowell, Daisy Thompson and Sophie Halliday.

“They gave competitors great advice on slowing down your voice, the use of palm cards, and how to harness your nerves.

“The task of selecting a winner is always arduous and this year honourable mentions must go to Jyson Jarrett and Noah Heighway who were picked at the post by one point.”
