Lismore Men and Community Shed mega garage sale SaturdayDon Abraham President Lismore Men's and Community Shed with Malcolm Shoesmith organising the monster garage sale this Saturday.

The Lismore Men and Community Shed is one of those charitable community groups that give their time and skills to help the Lismore community.

Since they have opened in their new premises, after being flooded out of the last, President Don Abrahams and the team have been fixing flood-affected lawnmowers, whipper snippers, hedge cutters and more.

In a June Lismore App new story, we announced the organisation received an $80,000 State Government grant so to can replace lost tools (in the flood) and build an ablution block for men and women as the group accepts both sexes in their group.

While the grants are wonderful and embraced with open arms by Don Abrahams, the immediate issue they face is the cost of day-to-day operations like electricity, something the group needs at various times to operate the machinery they need to build and fix items as well as be able to see inside their large sheds. Even without any machinery operating, the electricity bill was $450 for two months.

"That was just sitting here waiting for the tools to come because we don't have anything yet. We don't even turn the lights on so I don't know where they got all the power from."

So, what do you do when you need some cash? Have a garage sale.

"A mega garage sale," Don explained, " because we've got a lot of stuff on the 10th of December."

"We're going to kick off at 8:30 in the morning to try and raise funds to keep us going. At the moment we haven't got any sort of income coming in."

"We have had so many things donated, things that you really cannot use in a shed but other people can use. Things like electrical appliances like lamps, electronics, lawnmowers, you know everyday items."

All electrical equipment has been fully tested because the group has a qualified electrician who can complete the 'test and tag' of all items for sale so you know it is safe.

Malcolm Shoesmith is the man looking after the mega garage sale and the man behind publicising the event so the Lismore Men and Community Shed can make as much money as they can.

"If this works well then we'll probably have one once a month as a fundraiser," Don added, "That way we can eventually sell some of the stuff we make when we get set up."

The Lismore Men and Community Shed also earn some money by helping people build flatpack items, so if you aren't handy with the tools or want to help Don and the team out, give them a call 0404 860 504.

You can also donate items by calling the same number or get in touch via their Facebook Page.

The Lismore Men and Community Shed Mega Garage Sale is this Saturday, December 10 from 8:30am to 12 midday. You will find them at 15 Industry Drive, East Lismore just at the bottom of Cynthia Wilson Drive (opposite Rifle Range Road).
