UPDATE 11AM from NSW Police

Two buildings have been destroyed by fire in Lismore’s CBD this morning.

Emergency services were called to Magellan Street shortly after 4am (Wednesday, 15 October 2025), after a building was seen alight.

The fire spread to an adjoining building on Magellan Street, with Fire and Rescue NSW teams from Lismore, Goonellabah, Coraki, Alstonville and Mullumbimby attending the scene.

The fire was extinguished about 6am but both buildings were destroyed.

A crime scene has now been established on-site; once deemed safe, it will be examined by Scene of Crime officers and specialist fire investigators in an effort to determine the cause of the fire.

ORIGINAL STORY

Firefighters were called to the old Masonic Hall building on Magellan Street just after 4am this morning after receiving multiple 000 calls.

Superintendent Gary White said firefighters commenced firefighting operations as soon as they arrived.

"Crews from around the area have been able to extinguish the fire and are now in the process of mopping up that fire.

"At this stage, we can see there has been damage done to the roof of the hall and also to the building at the rear of the hall."

Parts of Magellan Street are closed to traffic; however, it was anticipated that it would be open to traffic again shortly.
