Lismore look to take next step against Pioneers

Lismore will look to continue their improvement against the Wollongbar Alstonville Pioneers when they travel east on Saturday.

The Greens have improved each outing against the Pioneers this season and will look to continue the trend.

After an eye opening Round 1 66-0 loss, the Lismore side improved in Round 8 when they next clashed.

Only for two tries in the first six minutes of the match, they were able to trouble the Wollongbar side from then on, eventually going down 33-7.

If Lismore can match the home side in the opening exchanges and organise their defensive effort early, they can worry the ladder leaders.

The biggest challenge for Lismore is to not be concerned about the ladder positions of either team, rather, focussing on executing their game plan.

The Pioneers lead the competition, from Byron Shire who host the Ballina Seahorses on Saturday.

Club veteran Gavin Tulk will be joined in First Grade by his son Dylan, who will pack into the second row behind his father at prop.

Tyler Coveney will captain the side again, with Cody Johnston returning at halfback.

The other match of the round sees Casuarina travel to Casino in what should be a win for the Barbarians.

At Lyle Park, Lismore will play Evans River in U/18 Colts at 11:50am and in a Women's 12's match at 2:20pm, with Reserve Grade taking on the Pioneers at 1:00pm and First Grade at 3:15pm.
