Lismore Heart Art Drop is a free community event happening on Saturday, November 11 from 10am in the Lismore CBD.
On the day, over fifty (50) donated pieces of art will be hidden around the CBD clearly labelled and in distinctive waterproof packaging.
Basically, when people find a piece of art, they can keep it.
The idea of an “Art Drop” is not new, it was originally created in 1961 in America.
Since their initial concept, the idea of art drops has grown and many artists both individually and collectively in specific ‘art drop days’ share their work with the wider public. There are many pages, similar to the Lismore Art Drop Facebook page, across the globe, sharing the fun of art drops.
Closer to home, Murwillumbah has been running Art Drop successfully for the last six years and ran theirs last weekend.
One of the organisers Rebecca Ryan told the Lismore App creatives in the Lismore region have been invited to take part.
"If you are an artist who would like to participate and donate a piece of art, please email us at loveforlismore@gmail.com and we will respond with more information. We have also had artists from outside the area ask to participate which is fantastic."
"Not only is this an initiative to help boost local creative profiles in a positive way, it is an aim to help spread more kindness and goodwill in our community as a whole," Rebecca said.
The artwork includes paintings, ceramics, stained glass, drawings, felt birds and more.
Some of those 50 artists who are donating include Alison Watts, Bec Massey, Nic Palmer, Mim O'Grady, Hanging Rock Jewellery, Dreamboat Creative and Val Smith.
HOW IT WORKS
On Saturday, November 11 clues will be posted on the Love for Lismore Heart Space Facebook page and the Facebook pages of each artist. The full list of participating artists is also on the Love for Lismore Heart Space page.
"The clue may be written or visual," Rebecca explained, "I am sure some people will just be wandering around the CBD and find one on the 11th not really knowing what it is all about."
When you find a piece of artwork, it will have a piece of paper saying 'congratulations' with the name of the artist and their social media page. You are encourage to take a photo, post the phot and tag the artist on the Love for Lismore Heart Space page and the artists Facebook page.
If the clues prove difficult, more clues will appear throughout the day so the artwork is found. The Lismore Heart Art Drop will finish at 6pm Saturday, November 11.
Until then, if you are an artist that would like to get involved, email loveforlismore@gmail.com.
