The siren atop of Lismore Fire Station will be sounded at 1pm today (Wednesday 21 July 2021) for test purposes only.
Ian Grimwood from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 362 Lismore said the siren was last used in 2017.
"This was when the floodwaters first topped the levee in the CBD," Ian said, "So, you can see it is a vital piece of equipment."
Ian wanted to inform the people of Lismore for two reasons.
One is to let you know that this is a TEST only and not an emergency situation, while the second reason is to ask the public to notify the fire station if they can hear the siren so they can gauge its reach.
If you hear the siren at 1pm today, can you send an email to stn362@fire.nsw.gov.au saying what street you live or work in at that time. This is not necessary if you live in the CBD are but is more for residents in East, South and North Lismore.
The test time again is 1pm at the Lismore Fire Station in Molesworth Street.
