The Lismore Farmers’ Market will be celebrating its 20th birthday this morning, July 22nd, and they want you to join in the festivities from 7:30am until 11:30am.
Since its establishment in 2003 at the Lismore Showgrounds, the market has provided a vibrant platform for local farmers, artisans and producers.
The idea for the community market was seeded by Dorroughby macadamia farmer, Ian Mulligan and the president of the North Coast National A & I Society, John Gibson.
Mr Mulligan said the primary goal was to create a space where residents and visitors alike can access fresh, locally grown food whilst directly supporting the community’s farmers.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see how the market has flourished and become a vibrant and integral part of Lismore’s fabric,” he said.
“We are immensely grateful for the support and loyalty of our customers and vendors, who have made this milestone possible.”
Market co-founder, John Gibson, is also the president of the market’s host, the North Coast National A & I Society. He said that the 20th birthday celebration serves as a reminder of the market's enduring commitment to sustainable practices, local entrepreneurship and fostering meaningful connections between producers and consumers.
“This celebration promises to be a lot of fun for everyone,” he said.
The morning’s activities include pony rides, face-painting, kids’ games with Spottygirl, live music and a half-hour talk by local “gardening guru” Phil Dudman on Spring gardening.
