"Amazing. I'm so glad that the people of Lismore and surrounding areas and people from Brisbane and Sydney actually took up the invitation to experience a beautiful Italian day."
Those were the words of a happy LisAmore! President Gianpiero Battista mid-afternoon at the Lismore Turf Club.
The crowd built over the day to a peak around 2pm as did the temperature, a perfect 23 degrees with not a breath of wind.
Gianpiero said the LisAmore! committee hoped to get about 4,000 people to the Sunday event so was ecstatic with a crowd estimate of between 5,000 and 5,500 people that came and went throughout the day.
There was plenty to keep people entertained at the family-friendly event that had a dedicated Kid's Space with face painting and crazy string barriers.
The ten Ferraris attracted continuous onlookers all with envy in their eyes and the Ducati motorbikes provided another taste of Italy with a couple of Vespa's thrown in to add to the flavour.
"They came from Brisbane," Gianpiero explained, "There's a couple of locals as well but mainly from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. They spent the night at Invercauld House last night. We had a wonderful dinner with the owners. I estimate that we had about $20 million worth of cars in the car park."
It wasn't just the prancing horses that attracted onlookers, there were some vintage cars that had been lovingly restored including a 1922 Model 501 Fiat thanks to Robert Lovell.

Some fabulous Italian food was consumed throughout the day with arancini balls a favourite as well as the pizza van which had a consistent lineup all day.

If you were after the famous Sicilian cannoli, you had to be quick as 400 sold out early in the day leaving those with a sweet tooth to eat tiramisu.
"Everyone has been flat out all day serving some amazing food. It has been an incredible atmosphere," Gianpiero said.
There was live music from Domenico that had some of the crowd up and dancing in front of the stage and the tug-of-war provided some more entertainment with some big smiles on some young faces.
The Saturday workshops and CBD activities were also successful.
"I think it was just a good way to extend the weekend and have extra cultural Italian lessons for the people of Lismore. In fact, we had a couple from Brisbane come down especially to listen to the famiglia and Antonio."
One incredible event leads into another this weekend. The 2023 Lismore Lantern Parade is set to wow locals and visitors alike from 12 midday in the CBD this Saturday, June 24.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting another ideal winter's day with a top of 19 degrees.
