Leo's Food Bar new ownership runs in the family

Leo's Food Bar on Magellan Street, the popular family-run business, is under new management, with daughter Cherise Baxter as the new owner.

Former owners Warren and Judy Baxter decided to retire and hand the business over to their daughter Cherise after 16 years of service.

Judy thanked the community for the support received over the years.

"We would like to thank everyone for your amazing continued support over the last 16 years," she said.

"Without you all, Leo's just wouldn't be Leo's. We have survived numerous floods, Covid, rising costs and are still here."

"We would like to congratulate Cherise and wish her the best of luck."

Cherise said she feels honoured to take over the business.

"I feel as if this business is part of Lismore, and I am not sure what Lismore would be like without it," she said.

"We know a lot of customers by name; we grew up here and enjoyed running the business over the years."

"Mum and Dad bought this 16 years ago, and I have had experience running this business for a couple of those years. I did leave to pursue another career in financial planning. However, medical issues prevented me from staying in that industry."

"Since I returned here, I have done marketing and other various jobs for Leo's, which gave me purpose."

Cherise said she would continue to offer the same quality service, including coffee.

"I recently did my barista course to pump out the coffee," she said.

"It's quick service food, and we pride ourselves on quality and time. Most people who work in the CBD only get a 30-minute lunch break, so we try to serve people quality food as quickly as possible."

"We encourage phone orders so you don't have to wait around, get it quickly and get back to work. We do everything from chips to salads, potato scallops, cook our chooks, batter and crump our own seafood, sandwiches, wraps and much more."

You can visit Leo's Food Bar at 54 Magellan Street, open Monday to Wednesday from 9 am to 4 pm, till 7 pm on Thursday and Friday and open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
