Just Ride Cycles experiences second break in since floods

Just Ride Cycles on Wyrallah Road, East Lismore was broken into for the second time since the March 2022 floods this week, with brazen thieves breaking the window to remove stock in the middle of the night.

Jason Sippel the owner of Just Ride Cycles told the Lismore App this second break-in has cost his business thousands.

With 6 bikes stolen across both break-ins overall, being valued at $20,000 and his new security system being installed this week, Jason says his business has been hit hard.

"Without the Government Business grants, we might not have refurbished the shop at all, but thought we would give it a go. Now after this, we are struggling. It's not just the cost, it's the fact that stock was already hard to get in because of Covid. Now, it's incredibly difficult and will just be a long, slow process".

The front window was smashed Monday night/Tuesday morning, and Jason says he and his wife were there the next morning, cleaning up the glass and the shop. "They just smashed the glass and then pulled the bikes out. Last time they climbed through the roof and then went out the back gate, so we had already spent money to replace the gate".

Richmond Police District were contacted but declined to comment.

Jason said they sent forensics both times, though he says he hasn't heard anything since the last break-in where four bikes had been taken.

This isn't the first year that Jason has been broken into, this latest break-in means it is four times in four years.
