Lismore Marist Brothers Rams' sensation Josh Patston is a go-getter both on and off the field.

The centre and second-rower, who has been with Brothers since being a junior, has actively been pushing to take his A-game to the next level which is to get into the Queensland Cup, also known as the Intrust Super Cup competition.

As one of the most premier rugby league competitions in Australia, the participating clubs at this level cover an area from Cairns to Tweed.

“I sent Nathan Cross a message seeing if he could give me a hand and finding me a club, and he sorted me out at Tweed,” said Patston, who was outstanding for Marist Brothers in the 2020 season.

The Tweed Seagulls has what is known as a ‘feeder’ agreement which provides a pathway for players to get their start in the National Rugby League.

Patston has been granted a ‘train and trial’ contract with the Tweed Seagulls, a ‘feeder’ club for the Gold Coast Titans.

“I’ve just got to do my best through the pre-season which started last Tuesday, and hopefully at the end of February I get signed for the year,” Patston said.

Patston added if he is signed then he will move up to Tweed.

“I’m going to Tweed to be on the edge either in the second row or in the centres," Patston said.

The Perpetual Trophy winner and Northern Rivers Titans Under 23 representative player said he doesn’t mind which position the Seagulls want him to play.

“I don’t mind where I’m put, I’m comfortable in either position," he said.

Described as very strong, agile and fast, the young player has an exciting time ahead of him.

"I started at the rams in U/6s and started playing first grade in 2018.

“Just grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to see where 2021 takes me,” he added.

Brothers' First Grade coach Mark Sivewright said it was "great to see" Josh Patston and Hugh Pratt, who lives in Brisbane, playing in the Queensland Cup in 2021. Pratt has agreed terms with Easts Tigers.

"We also lose Matt Tickle who is moving out of the area for work," he added.
