A familiar horse named Prince of Arran will contest Race 6 at the Lismore Turf Club on Monday.

Unfortunately for local racing fans, it will not be last Tuesday's Melbourne Cup placegetter, trained by Englishman Charlie Fellowes, but a gelding with the same name trained on the Gold Coast by Maryann Brosnan.

It is very rare for this to happen, with Racing Australia setting rules to stop this confusion, but with International raiders heading Down Under in large numbers for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, they cannot adjust overseas horse names.

Statistically, there is just a slight difference between the two geldings.

The English superstar ran third in Tuesday's Cup, after running second in 2019 and third in 2018. He has amassed over $3.7m in prize money from 45 starts across the world, with 6 wins and 17 placings.

The local version has a record of 32 starts for 2 wins and 11 placings, securing his owners a respectable $82,435.

There are several similarities, however.

Prince of Arran (GB) was ridden by the only female jockey in this year's Cup, Jamie Kah and jumped from Barrier 1, Prince of Arran (the Gold Coast version) will also jump from barrier 1 on Monday and will also be ridden by a female jockey, Leah Kilner.

If the Prince is successful on Monday at 5:05pm in Lismore, it will secure another $11,200 for connections.

Lismore trainer Daniel Bowen will saddle up three runners on the card, with Antilia and Kidlat contesting Race 1 at 1:55pm and Rose Bouquet running in Race 3, the Southern Cross Lads Maiden Plate over 1110m.

Antilia and Rose Bouquet are owned by local businessman Steve Butcher who is a strong supporter of both Bowen and the Lismore Turf Club.

Another starter with local connections is Stella Reale, which will contest Race 4, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Maiden Handicap. The horse is managed by Lismore based, Viva Racing's Mitch Lowe and has a number of local owners who will be cheering her home.

Turf Club Secretary Manager Scott Jones is happy with the track after the recent storms.

"The track is in great condition and we will race on a Good track on Monday. We did not get as much rain as other areas, so the track has come up a treat."

"The weather forecast over the weekend looks good and we should have a great 7 race card on Monday."

"We are really looking forward to our last meeting for 2020 which is the Christmas Cup Meeting on Friday December 18. It is always well patronised and has a great atmosphere."

"Plenty of local businesses have already booked in their Christmas parties for this date, and with limited spaces available, I encourage anyone who may be thinking about it to secure their spots as soon as possible."

"With COVID restrictions in place, we are still limited with our numbers, so get in quick."

The meeting commences at 1:55pm on Monday, with the last race jumping at 5:40pm.
