Invercauld House reveals new million dollar make-overAt the entry to Invercauld House is manager Amoreena Rowe, Joy Riley and Chef Steaven Writer.

After four year's of planning, approvals and renovations Invercauld House in Goonellabah is finally ready to reveal its good work to the world.

The Catholic Church for the Diocese of Lismore purchased the land and property in 2017. That is when manager Amoreena Rowe began building her vision for the new Invercauld House and putting the plans into motion.

"The license was originally for education," Amoreena told the Lismore App, "We were targeting schools and businesses that needed to train staff."

"Now we have a license for events which includes weddings, social events and tourism."

Phase One and Two saw the conference centre undergo an overhaul that includes state of the art projectors, audio equipment and video conferencing abilities.

Phase Three was converting the caretaker's cottage into a new stand-alone conference facility separate to the main building, fully equipped. This doubles as the communal area for guests staying in the accommodation when not in use.

Phase Four and Five has been the refurbishment of all the accommodation, this includes 29 suites with one Executive Suite and 28 Queen Suites. Four of those can be a twin share for families.

The Executive Suite is larger with a fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge room with a fold-out bed.

Amoreena explained the vision for Invercauld House, "The idea is for Invercauld House to work with local businesses to showcase what the Lismore and Northern Rivers area has to offer," she said.

"We want to welcome guests with a pack that has products from the local area. We want each of the twenty-nine rooms to have a piece of art from a local artist that can be purchased," she added, "We have a very creative community."

"For weddings, we want to establish a register of local businesses like celebrants, florists, cake decorators, anything to do with creating a special event for a wedding. We have the opportunity to make this a community event."

If you would like to be on this register, contact Amoreena or Joy for information on what to send through via email manager@invercauldhouse.com.au.

Invercauld House will also boost tourism with its new facilities through conferences and retreats from outside the area.

"We have a 5-day Yoga Retreat for 35 people coming up," Amoreena explained, "For us, it is very exciting because we are bringing people to the local area who may not have come here before."

"Invercauld House to me is not just a business, it is part of the community of businesses and the local people that live within it and we want to build on that."

"The Yoga Retreat organiser picked us because we are surrounded by some really beautiful areas that they can explore as well."

"The great thing about Lismore is that it is central. If you want to go to the coast and explore the beaches and Byron Bay and Ballina areas you can do that because it is not far away but we are this central hub where you can also explore some beautiful waterfalls and rainforests and arts & crafts."

"We want to open up Lismore to people who want to discover something new."

While the history of Invercauld house is vague, it was initially owned by a Doctor and his family and used as a farmstead with cow sheds and milking bales.

Rather than demolish and rebuild, they have retained some original parts of the homestead, the rock walls and two pockets of rainforest which are original to the area.

"We are creating walkways through the rainforest at the moment and regenerating other parts of the rainforest to add to the tranquil setting we are in," Amoreena added.

The newly renovated suites are priced at $185.50 for the Queen Suites and $225.50 for the Executive, this includes gst.

All suites have a kitchenette so fridge, freezer and microwave as well as a sink in the kitchen area. The bathroom has a rain shower head and in winter there will be doona's on the bed instead of blankets.

"We have created a relaxing space that brings the outdoors but it's the little things that make a difference. We want to create the comforts of home while people are away."

Major renovations lead to more business which leads to more staff and this is another benefit to the community.

Invercauld House now employs 15 full-time and casual employees after starting this journey with two. Of the fifteen there is an apprentice and trainee chef in the kitchen plus three in hospitality and more in housekeeping.

If you haven't been to Invercauld House recently, do yourself a favour and check out the amazing work that has been completed with the final touches to be finalised by the end of the year.

Invercauld House is at 163 Invercauld Road, Goonellabah.
