Far North Coast Softball has welcomed a new coach to the juniors - none other than former Australian and Queensland baseballer and NSW softballer Karina Connors.
Connors, who played baseball for 17 years, is a former Far North Coast Softball junior who learned to play under the guidance of Far North Coast Softball legend, the former NSW player Kayleen Shailes. Connors made her way up the ranks with Dodgers to play in one of the most dominant women’s team the Far North Coast Softball competition has ever seen.
Connors’ played softball for NSW, before moving to Cairns, Far North Queensland, to advance her baseball career, where she represented Queensland and Australia.
Connors returned to Lismore this season to play in the mixed competition with younger brother Jeremy Sexton, but Shailes wasted no time in recruiting Connors for the Dodgers women’s team. Since returning she has given Dodgers the extra lift they needed this year, which was proven in a close game against the undefeated Casino 1 side last weekend, with Connors striking out seven batters.
But where Connors has shined the most is on a Friday afternoon helping our FNC juniors develop their softball skills.
“It’s fantastic to have her back and sharing her knowledge of the game with our juniors, we are excited to see what she comes up with to help further their development,” said FNCSA representative Dianne McGowen.
