One more patch of intense rain before we see four sunny days

Looking at the weather on your phone app or the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) through the Lismore App is looking optimistic with pictures of a sun for consecutive days. Something we haven't seen since January or does it just feel that way?

Before we get to those sunny days we have to endure another patch of intense rain over the next three days.

Neil from the BOM explained there is a high pressure system east of Tasmania and a weaker trough along the coast that is causing the current rainfall. A developing upper level trough off the coast of Queensland will bring more intense rainfall once again to the Northern Rivers with Thursday the heaviest day. This unstable weather pattern has been the one that causes concern.

The coastal areas will receive the most rainfall with Wednesday 15-30mm at Ballina while Lismore should receive 5-12mm, Thursday will be a wet 30-60mm for Ballina, up to 70mm for Byron with Lismore 25-45mm while Friday should bring 20-40mm for both regions. The further inland you are the less rain you will receive.

There are no warnings current from the BOM in terms of flood watch with the coming rain, however, the Lismore App will watch with interest if that changes as the week progesses.

By Saturday the rain should be all over, although there may be some lingering showers on Saturday morning then clearing to four days of sunny skies. It even feels strange to write.

This is driven by a westerly system that will bring showers inland including snow to the southern parts of NSW and cold winds for the Northern Rivers. The winds will hopefully help dry soggy playing fields and golf courses throughout the region.

With the sun comes colder mornings as temperatures get down to about 10 degrees but the days should be in the early 20's.

The sun should hang around for at least 4-days. What do we do with that?
