New evacuation order issued for Lismore CBD

The State Emergency Service (SES) has renewed calls for evacuations in Lismore - by 4pm today.

At 1pm this afternoon, the SES gave an evacuation order for the Lismore CBD, Lismore Basin and low lying areas of East Lismore and Girards Hill to evacuate.

The SES said the order was affected by Leycester Creek, stating that the LEVEE can OVERTOP from 10.4 - 10.6m.

NSW SES is directing people within these areas to evacuate the high danger area via New Ballina Road, Bruxner Highway and Daley Street.

The Evacuation Centre location is at Southern Cross University, Military Road, Lismore

Why we are directing people to evacuate:

Once flood water begins inundating the area road access, water, sewerage, power, phones and internet may be lost.

If you remain in the area you will be trapped and it may be too dangerous for SES to rescue you.

"Please follow the order to EVACUATE," the SES ask. "Help us help you. Leave before its too late."

Before evacuating, you should prepare yourself and your property for flooding

Raise belongings by placing them on tables, beds and benches.

Put electrical items on top. You may be able to place some light-weight items in the roof space.

Collect together essential medicines, important documents, mementos and photos to take these with you.

Make arrangements for care of pets or other animals or take pets with you to an evacuation centre.

Turn off the electricity and gas.

Take three days’ supply of clothes with you.

Continue to listen to a local radio station for updates

Don’t walk or drive through floodwaters – this is the main cause of death and injury during flooding
