The Lismore App spoke with Rural Fire Service staff who said the fire looked "contained" to a pile of recycled tyres, although there was also some scrap metal in the area.

He received the call to attend the fire at 3.30pm.

It is believed the un-signposted Lismore property is a part of a business previously named Arkans Scrap Metal, which deals in recycled scrap metal and old tyres.

ORIGINAL STORY: Fire at scrap metal and tyre recyclers

A fire has broken out at a local Lismore business on Keen Street, Lismore.

The facility, previously named Arkans Scrap Metal, deals in recycled scrap metal and old tyres and currently has fire brigade appliances on the scene trying to bring the blaze under control.

It is expected that multiple Hazmat Units from other towns will soon arrive Lismore to contain the toxic fumes from the smoke.

The Lismore App will keep you informed.
