Rain forced the abandonment of 'The Dream' Production Sedan main event after six laps with Lismore driver Stuart Fawcett declared the winner at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway last night.

Steve Jordan, who held down second placing when inclement weather struck, was awarded the runner-up position while Richard Cook was placed third in the final, official standings.

High drama surrounded the running of' 'The Dream' after a fiery crash occurred soon after the start when Daniel Henshaw collided with Brody Fraser.

A fire erupted after a fuel cell split, engulfing both cars in flames.

The cars driven by Adrian Stott and Matthew Leyton also were involved. It took firefighters sometime to control the blaze in which the cars driven by Henshaw and Fraser were severely damaged. All drivers escaped unscathed.

When the race finally resumed under threatening skies, it was Fawcett who went straight to the lead in his Holden VF Commodore. Fawcett, who started from the pole position, was hounded by Jordan before a yellow light slowed the action soon after following spins by Chris Besseling and Ash Graham.

Fawcett, a linesman at NF Construction, led away again at the green light as Jordan Biviano and Australian Champion Joel Berkley figured in a close battle further back in the field. Berkley ultimately fought his way into fourth spot shortly before the rain started.

A spin by Ryan Green again brought on the yellow light when rain started falling.

Race officials were forced to declare the event at the six lap mark as heavy rain continued to fall.

The top 10 standings in 'The Dream' for the 2019-2020 season are: 1. Stuart Fawcett, 2. Steve Jordan, 3. Richard Cook, 4. Joel Berkley, 5. Mark Quirk, 6. Chris Pagel, 7. Jordan Biviano, 8. Rory Evans, 9. Ashley Graham and 10. Aaron Hall.

Fawcett posted the fast lap of the rain-shortened event on lap two when he clocked 16.184 seconds and a speed of 88.977 km/h.

"It was a shame the rain came as it was set to be a very fast pace feature," said Fawcett.

"It was marred by the major accident of two of my fellow competitors Daniel Henshaw and Brodie Fraser. Mighty glad that both were unhurt and able to walk away.

"My car was on point thanks to Mark Soward for all the scaling and setup work he puts in.

"For the rest of the season we will be chasing most major meetings on the east coast from Sydney to Rockhampton including the Queensland title at Gympie and maybe the Australian title in Ellenbrook in West Australia if we can raise some more sponsorship to get us over there."

Production Sedan heats were won by Fawcett, Layton, Cook, Jordan, Henshaw and Chris Pagel.

The Production Sedan B-Main winner was Rory Evans.

Weather played havoc with proceedings in the latter part of the evening.

With heavy rain approaching on radar, promoter David Lander was forced to quickly reshuffle the programme schedule to move forward the respective main events for the six categories programmed with a reduction in laps in order to get the full programme completed.

But the rain won out and the only other feature race (in addition to 'The Dream') held was the AMCA feature, won by Troy Price, over the adjusted distance of 15 laps.

Feature races for Junior Sedans, Nationals Four Cylinder Sedans, Street Stocks and Wingless Sprints all were victims of the rain and not held.

The next scheduled meeting at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway is the opening round of the Mr Modified Series on Boxing Night, 26 December 26.
