Blake Davis, a 16-year-old student at St John's College, Woodlawn, hit his maiden century for Marist Brothers' Hooker League side in the Round 3 clash against Tintenbar East Ballina at Oakesa Oval yesterday afternoon.
Much to his delight Brad Cleaver's side was sent in by Tintenbar's captain Nathan Hoey and wanted to take advantage of the fast outfield and a hard wicket.
"Our goal yesterday was to have wickets in hand at lunch so that after lunch we could really go after the bowlers and post a big total," said Cleaver.
Ash Simes and Cleaver put on 65 for the first wicket and all the batsmen made good starts (Simes 34, Cleaver 27. Damien Vidler 38) before Henry Harris was joined by Blake Davis. When Harris fell for 40 it was 4/194, Davis was joined by his school colleague Zayd Thomas.
The pair put on 120 runs with Cleaver declaring when Davis was out for 108. and clapped out the field. Davis hit six sixes and four boundaries.

"Blake batted outstandingly and was supported well by Henry Harris (40) and Zayd Thomas (46 not out)," said Cleaver.
"It's really good to see the young guys in the team going so well.""
Cleaver's declaration left Tintenbar's openers Cameron Daniels and Jesse Barnwell to face six testing overs from Brothers' Brendan Mitchell, James Fennamore and one over of spin from Harris. The pair managed to survive to be 0/8 at the end of the day's play.
"We had a pretty good day. I couldn’t of asked for a better day with the bat from our guys," said Cleaver.
