Ian Brims, a former Australian Modified Sedan Champion and NSW Super Sedan title holder and now in his early seventies, is ending his career where it started - Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway on Saturday night.
Brims, who owns Brins Concrete/Earthmoving in South Murwillumbah, is calling time, hanging up the helmet and retiring Brims Racing Team after a speedway career that spanned over three decades.
It will be a special night, sad night, certainly an emotional night, when Ian says farewell as a competitor to a sport he has served well.
"The Dig started out of 11 in the feature and came up with 2nd place after a hard fought race, congrats to Matty Pascoe on his 1st and Matty Williams on his 3rd and all other competitors on their efforts." April 2015
Ian will end his career at the same track where it all started in Production Sedans during the 1985-86 season. The Production Sedan division proved successful for Ian before he made the move into Super Sedans during the 2000-01 season.
“We had plenty of good times and the opportunity to race all over Australia,” Ian said. “I have met some great people along the way. We take this time to thank everyone for their support during our speedway racing journey. It has been great and is so much appreciated.”
One of the highlights – among many stand out performances – was his victory in the Australian Modified Sedan Championship for the 1994-95 season. The title was held in Canberra and Ian bested a strong field as he led Victoria's Peter McCarthy and Queensland driver Darren Munro to the chequered flag.
Ian Brims also took out a New South Wales Super Sedan Championship in 2015.

But his racing involvement goes further than just competing. His company, Brims Concrete/Earthmoving, has in past years been a naming rights sponsor of the series sanctioned by the Super Sedan Association of Queensland.
“The sponsorship is, I guess, because I have been involved with the sport for such a long time. It's great to put something back into the sport,” Ian explained.
The return of Super Sedans on Saturday highlights a big variety programme at the Lismore venue that will also feature racing for Wingless Sprints, AMCA Sedans, Production Sedans, Street Stocks and Junior Sedans.
Race organisers have received a very strong entry list from the Super Sedan Association headed by multi-National Champion Darren Kane.
The Super Sedan appearance features round ten of the McCosker Super Sedan series. The tournament, held over 15 rounds this season, also takes in Queensland tracks and this particular round looms as one of the most important in the series as the point standings reveal a number of drivers still in contention for 2020-2021 season championship in the remaining rounds.
Sean Black holds a 191 point lead over Kane while third placed in the current standings, Sam Roza, is a further three hundred points behind Kane.
The top ten ten are rounded out by: Mick Nicola (1379); Justin Smithwick (1334); Steve Jordan (1331); Nicholas O'Keeffe (1168); Matt Pascoe (1148); Josh McLaren (1134) and Carter Armstrong (1035).
Roza comes into the starting line-up as a last start main event winner following his victory in round nine of the McCosker series earlier this month at Gympie's Mothar Mountain Speedway. The win also marked Roza's first career feature race success in Super Sedan competition.
There are 23 entrants for the Wingless Sprints' Northern Rivers Club Championships. Jacob Jolley, who won the annual 100-lap Australian Wingless Sprintcar Grand Prix at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway last month, is an entrant, together with Alstonville's David Eggins and Michael Butcher, from Lismore, who finished second and third. Trent Martin and Robert Mazzer are also racing.
