Car manufacturer Hyundai has pulled out of Lismore and central Northern Rivers.
At the start of 2025, Quayside Motors' agreement with Hyundai was not renewed, which leaves locals interested in buying or getting a dealership service for their Hyundai having to travel to the Tweed or Grafton.
The Lismore App understands Hyundai gave Quayside short notice at the beginning of this year that the agreement would not be renewed. This means Quayside will not be getting any more new Hyundai vehicles, and their current stock will be sold as demonstration vehicles.
Anyone who has purchased a new Hyundai with its 5-Year Unlimited Km Warranty or wants to use the Lifetime Service Plan needs to hit the highway north to Tweed heads or south to Grafton.
Quayside's General Manager on The Tweed did not want to make a comment, while a Hyundai representative said there was no update on if or when Lismore and Ballina would see another dealership.
Sources within the local car industry said Hyundai sales were down in 2024, and potentially, this is a strategic change of direction for the South Korean car company.
Either way, it will not impress locals who have purchased a Hyundai in the last four years.
