Goonellabah FC forward Lloyd Howard was named Player of the Match by coach John Eakin after his side's second successive defeat in Football Far North Coast's Premier Division.

The Hornets entertained 2018 Premiers Byron Bay who silenced the home fans with an early goal and lead 1-0 at half-time.

The Magpies then scored two more goals in the second half to record their first victory in this season's Premier Division.

Conversely Goonellabah are two losses from two games and will be pleased to see goalkeeper Brad Robertson and winger Liam Kelly soon fighting for a place in the starting XI after injury.

"We leaked an early goal and played catch up for the rest of the game," Eakin told the Lismore App.

"There was a 20 minute period of play in the second half where we dominated but couldn’t jag a goal. Then they scored off another of our passing errors.

"The boys worked hard, but not together as a unit. Lloyd Howard, Matthew Graham, Kaiden Powell and Tom Pitman never stopped trying.

"We need to regroup with a Round 1 game against Bangalow to be played at home on Tuesday night."
