History has been made for Lismore's Marist Brothers Cricket Club and their inaugural girls team, Pitch Perfect on Wednesday afternoon.
The club is fielding its first-ever all-girls team, and they are entered in the LDCA U/14 competition for the 2025/26 season.
It is the first time the club has been able to field an all-female side, and in encouraging signs for the game, their first match was against Casino's first-ever girls team, Casino Pink.
The match drew a large crowd of club members, media, parents and supporters at Jim Roder Oval, a crowd that included former Australian Cricket Captain Lyn Larsen.
The toss was won by Marist Brothers, and they sent Casino Pink into bat in warm conditions.
The Casino side got off to a solid start, with Kirra Fowler (18) and Grace Harris (32) both striking the ball well.
Casino eventually finished with 2/98 off 18 overs, with Alyce Klein (1/29) and Ava Greeensill (1/7) taking the wickets for Pitch Perfect.
In reply, the Marist Brothers team lost steady wickets before number 5 Bridie Benfield compiled 21, which included 4 fours, before falling short of the Casino total, finishing with 4/76 off their 18 overs.
It was an encouraging start for both teams in the U/14 competition, with girls being able to play up to two years below their age group in the mixed competition.
Coach Luke Collings was encouraged by what he saw and has done a great job in readying the team for match play after many weeks in the training nets.
Pitch Perfect will travel to Schultz Oval Bangalow next Wednesday for Round 2, before returning to Lismore to take on Goonellabah.
