Here comes the rain again

The glorious clear blue skies and warm winter temperatures are about to make way for a trough that is over the Coral Sea that will form into a low and bring rain to the Northern Rivers from tomorrow.

The first indication of a weather change will be the drop in temperature. It will be a noticeable change from 22 degrees today down to a cool 16 degrees tomorrow and remaining in the 16 to 18 degree range for the rest of the week.

Gabrielle from the Bureau of Meteorology said the heaviest falls will be on Friday (15-30mm) and Saturday morning (8-25mm) before easing Saturday afternoon and lingering showers on Sunday (0-4mm) that will affect coastal areas more than Lismore.

Until then, the rainfall will be between 1 and 3mm Tuesday and Wednesday rising to 5-10mm on Thursday as the low forms with increasing southerly to southeasterly winds.

"We can expect stronger winds and larger waves depending on how the low develops and where it is positioned off the coast," Gabrielle said, "There is the potential for coastal erosion but this does depend on the wave direction."

As the low develops, the BOM modelling will become clearer and will be updated regularly. You can read the latest weather forecast through the Lismore App which has a direct link to the BOM Weather and the BOM's weather radar Weather Radar
