Heat relief as southerly brings cooler temps tomorrow

As Lismore and the Northern Rivers bakes today with the mercury hitting 38 or 39 degrees, there is some good news on the way according to Jake from the Bureau of Meteorology.

That good news takes the form of a cooler southerly change which will be arriving overnight.

Unfortunately, it is not a particularly powerful change but it will drop the maximum temperature to 29 for Monday, a fair bit cooler than today. We are in store for a sticky night though with the minimum only dropping to 21 degrees.

Make the most of the cooler weather because it will warm up again as we head into next weekend, however, Jake said the temperature should be early to mid-30s, not the high-30s we experienced today.

We will see some unsettled weather returning on Monday with the chance of a thunderstorm but a stronger chance of thunderstorm activity will be on Tuesday and possibly severe. If that does eventuate, the Lismore App will let you know via a push notification. You can check the weather radar through the Lismore App Weather/Travel button to Weather & Travel.

"The storms will be a bit hit and miss," Jake said, "We could see falls of about 20mm but it could easily be double that if you are directly underneath the storm."

There will be a couple of showers hanging around on Wednesday but little chance of further storms then dry and warm is the order for the rest of the week. As we mentioned at the start of the story, meximum temperatures should be in the early 30's.

For those that want to enjoy a surf or a day at the beach in the next couple of days, The Bureau has issued a Hazardous Surf warning following the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle.

Gabrielle is now a low-pressure system over New Zealand after hitting Norfolk Island. It has generated some large swell.
