Samhain, the traditional Pagan holiday of witches and wizards falls on October 31st is coming up, the same day as Halloween, and whilst many may choose to put up decorations in their yard or home, and take the kids or grandkids, or friends 'trick-or-treating' the real roots of this holiday, are all about honouring the ancestors passed.
A self-proclaimed, real life witch 'Shan' owner of Blessed Be Magick Blog (for witches and the magically curious), has told the Lismore App all about her ways to honour and celebrate this holiday:
"I love all the commercial trappings of Halloween - I can't help it! It's so fun!"
"But when it comes to Samhain, I do take it seriously. Samhain, which also falls on Halloween, is recognized as the Witch's New Year as it also marks the start of the Wheel of the Year".
"The veil between our world and spirit world is also thinnest at Samhain, making it easier to communicate with those on the other side."
"In the weeks leading up to Samhain, I do tend to feel more introspective and intuitive and just a tad bit more magickal".
"During Samhain, I make resolutions to do with my spiritual path."
"I look at what energies and practices are not serving me anymore, and resolve to drop them".
"I journal and meditate over what might bring me closer to spirit and to the woman I want to be at my core, and resolve to work on them."
"I then choose a new piece of jewellery to signify my spiritual intentions for the new year and consecrate it with my intentions".
"This sacred and important process has served me yearly and I look forward to doing the same this year.
