Grand Final teams are set for FNC Rugby Union

The Far North Coast Rugby Union Grand Finalists are set after a big day of rugby at Wollongbar on Saturday.

With five teams already through to their respective deciders, it was down to the Preliminary Finals teams to earn their right to challenge them next Saturday.

Lismore's U/18 Colts side stated the day, looking to join the Women's side in the Grand Final, when they took on Mullumbimby.

The Green's started strongly, holding early field position and dominating at scrum time.

It was the Moonshiners who scored first with a penalty goal, before Lismore struck back off the kick-off, unfortunately knocking the ball on over the tryline.

It was Lismore's Number 8 Kody McQuilty who eventually opened the scoring for Lismore, crashing over minutes later and converting his own try for Lismore to lead 7-3 into halftime.

Mullumbimby came out fired up in the second half and scored immediately, to lead 8-7, before McQuilty wrestled back the lead for Lismore after a penalty goal to take the score to 10-8.

That was the last time Lismore would lead the match, with Mullum scoring a converted try and adding a penalty goal to put the match beyond Lismore's reach at 18-10.

In other matches, Richmond Range returned to the President's Cup Grand Final after a narrow 13-8 victory over Yamba and Casuarina moved through to take on Wollongbar in Second Grade after defeating Ballina 23-13.

In the Women's Preliminary Final, Ballina caused an upset, taking down minor premiers Casino 38-10 to set up a decider against Lismore.

And the First Grade Grand Final is set to be a physical battle between Ballina and Wollongbar Alstonville after the Seahorses disposed of Casuarina 50-26.

Next weekend's Grand Finals will kick off from 10:00am at Crozier Field, with the Lismore Women to play at 2:35pm before the First Grade match at 3:45pm.
