Goonellabah Workers Sports host Cudgen in Hooker League

Goonellabah Workers Sports will host Cudgen at Oakes Oval on Saturday in Round 3 of the LJ Hooker League competition.

Cudgen have been the benchmark of the competition for the last few seasons and Goonellabah will be looking for revenge after several heartbreaking losses in the 2021/22 season.

Cudgen have lost, arguably the best player in the competition, in Caleb Ziebell who has moved to the Gold Coast Dolphins to further his cricketing career in the 2022/23 season.

The two day match is possibly Goonellabahs best opportunity to exact revenge, however the northerners will not be an easy task to overcome.

The home side will be without opening batsman Sam McLean who is away with representative commitments, but younger brother Rory will take over the family duties.

Brady Toniello comes off a handy 72 against Alstonville and Tom Standish and Mark Denmeade also batted well last week.

In the same game, Kale Hare will be looking to replicate his performance of 5/17 off 10 overs with opening bowlers Damien Santin and Kaleb Armstrong also aiming to take early wickets.

There should be plenty of runs in the Oakes Oval pitch after several dry weeks.

The match will commence at 1:00pm.

In the other match of interest for Lismore, Marist Brothers will travel to Lennox Head looking for a win against a side that has struggled in the first two rounds of the competition.
