Goonellabah woman in serious condition after dog attacks her in front yard

A 66 year-old Goonellabah woman was seriously injured yesterday after being attacked by a dog in her front yard.

Police were called to the Oliver Avenue address shortly after 11.50am yesterday after witnesses feared for their own safety.

Officers arrived to find a kelpie-cross staffordshire bull terrier biting the woman's arms.

Police deployed tasers to remove the dog from the woman sending it running into the house.

Officers then restrained the animal to attend to the woman's injuries.

Paramedics took the woman to Lismore Base Hospital with deep lacerations to both her arms.

The Goonellabah woman is currently admitted to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition with significant wounds to both arms.

Council rangers were brought in to take the dog and police allege it is set to be euthanized.

An investigation into the attack is on-going.
