Parents of young children and those planning a family in Goonellabah have some more good news on the childcare front with a second new childcare centre set to become a reality, this one on Simeoni Drive.

Currently, plans are going through the approval process following the submission of a development application to Lismore City Council.

The new childcare centre will be situated on vacant land between The Village Shopping Centre and Aldi on Simeoni Drive. According to plans, there will be a shared driveway with Aldi for parents and staff to use the new facility.

The $2.9 million two-storey childcare centre will have room for 140 children and 48 car parking spaces at the back of the block with associated landscaping and operate from 6:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday with 23 staff on site.

The facility will have a shade cloth-covered sandpit, slide and fort, balance beam, mud kitchen, bike track and climbing pole as well as stepping stones throughout the childcare centre.

Nearly two weeks ago, the Lismore App gave details of a new childcare centre on Rous Road in Goonellabah, down from the Rous Road roundabout near the tennis courts and Weston Park.

The DA is also pending approval for a $1.7 million 98-place childcare centre with car parking at the front of the building near Rous Road.

With 238 childcare places available when the two premises are complete, it may be a race to the end to get first dibs.
