Goonellabah overcome the Ballina Bears

Despite wet weather across the weekend, the Goonellabah Workers Sports have defeated the Ballina Bears in the LJ Hooker League at Fripp Oval.

Goonellabah won the toss on Saturday and sent Ballina in to bat on a pitch that possibly had something in it early after a wet week of weather.

Josh Healy struck early with three quick wickets to have the home side reeling. It was a tight spell from Healy who finished with 3/2 off five overs.

Reece Gregor continued his wicket taking ways finishing with 4/35, dismissing the Bears for just 105 in the 40th over.

Brother Riley also snagged 2/0 off his single over.

In reply Goonellabah got off to a solid start with openers Andrew Kemmis (13) and Tom Standish (19) looking good before Kaleb Armstrong added a steady 21.

Reece Gregor (42) and Jack Cooper (39) then ensured that the GWS side pocketed the first innings victory eventually being dismissed for 159.

The Goonellabah side will host Pottsville next weekend at Oakes Oval in the final round before the Christmas/New Year break.
