Goonellabah look to stay on top of Hooker League

Goonellabah Workers Sports will look to stay on top of the LJ Hooker League when they travel to Pottsville on Saturday.

The Goonellabah side are on top of the competition ladder after two rounds, with the top order batsmen doing plenty of damage early in the season.

Opener Jack Cooper has caused most of the damage and sits on top of the Hooker League run scoring table with 172 runs.

A 9-wicket win under the Duckworth-Lewis System last week over Alstonville has helped their cause after storms rolled through the Northern Rivers last Saturday afternoon.

The GWS side will look to continue this momentum at Seabreeze Oval Pottsville on Saturday, with the match starting at 1:00pm.

Marist Brothers will host Terranora Lakes at Mortimer Oval in Round 3 action and will be looking to post another win, after a victory and a washout in the first two rounds.

Brothers currently sit in fourth position on the ladder and will look for a complete team effort against the competition newcomers.

The Brethren looked good with the bat last week, posting a very handy 8/222 off 40 overs, with Cooper Williams 68 not out, Andrew Munroe 33 and Jeremy Perkins adding 46 at the tail.

Unfortunately, the weather prevented a result against Cudgen, who were 1/46 in the 13th over before the match was abandoned.

Terranora have entered the competition at the expense of Murwillumbah who have dropped out of the top tier.

The match commences at 1:00pm at Mortimer Oval.
